IRCAD

ircad was founded in 1994 within the premises of strasbourg's university hospital. it brings together fundamental research laboratories focused on the treatment of digestive tract cancers, as well as r&d units in computer science and robotics that design and develop tools for diagnosis, surgical planning, and simulation aimed at improving and making surgical procedures safer. ircad’s research orientation has always been directed towards the development of less invasive surgical techniques. every year, more than 8,800 surgeons from all over the world are trained by the best international experts. the ircad has made it possible for surgeons from the entire world to obtain high-level skills, and as a result, the institute has maintained its position as an ambassador of french excellence. since its creation, the institute has gained world-renowned fame as a leading research and education institute. its international success has led to the construction of a twin institute in taiwan in 2008. a few years later, in 2011, ircad américa latina was inaugurated in the state of sao paulo, in june 2017 in rio de janeiro, brazil, and in 2022 in rwanda. a new institute will be inaugurated in 2023 in china and in 2024 in usa. the success of the institute was made possible with the help of local authorities who have given us their trust from the outset of the project, of industrial partners, and especially karl storz and medtronic, who have given us their firm support, and, of course, with the help of our faithful members who have been supporting the ircad for 27 years.
